Information on taking classes outside of SUNY New Paltz to satisfy DMJ OR General education requirements

I transferred from another university. Will my credits transfer?
Here is the information on transfer credits.

https://www.newpaltz.edu/admissions/transfer_credit.html
At the bottom of this page, you can also find the database that lists transfer equivalencies, which allows you to look up if a class you took at a previous university meets any requirements for New Paltz.

I want to take a class outside the university to meet a DMJ requirement. What should I do?

As your major advisor in DMJ, I can help you understand if a course you have found at another university will fit into your major plan. Note that at least 50% of the credits in a major must be taken at SUNY New Paltz.

Your first step should be to read all the information about transfer credits here before taking a class that you hope will meet any graduation requirement:

https://www.newpaltz.edu/admissions/transfer_credit.html
Once you have read that information, the database of transfer course equivalencies can be found here.

This database can help you get a sense of how courses at other universities could fit into your graduation requirements.
If you have found a class you think will fulfill a DMJ requirement and you can NOT find it in the database, setup a meeting with me on Starfish to discuss the course. You will need to send me the course description and the course syllabus prior to our meeting.
I want to take a class outside the university to meet a GenEd requirement and/or a requirement for a major OR minor outside of DMJ. What should I do?
As your major advisor in DMJ, I do not have information on whether or not a course taken at another university satisfies the university’s GenEd requirements or requirements for majors or minors in other departments.

Unfortunately, major advisors do not evaluate and approve if class meets a GenEd or other requirements outside of DMJ, this is handled by the Transfer Admissions Office. If you could not find your class on the transfer equivalency database and believe that this class should count as a GE, then you can appeal to the Academic Advising Center by contacting:
